Very Good

Is this Honeywell the right fit for you?

The short version

If you're dealing with that stubborn damp feeling in a bedroom, apartment, or maybe part of your basement, this Honeywell 30-Pint model is pretty much the sweet spot. It's efficient, it's easy to take care of, and it's actually quiet on its low setting. It's one of those 'set it and forget it' machines that just works, thanks to a real humidistat and an auto-restart feature. But look, for a seriously wet basement or a whole floor, you'll almost certainly want to jump up to a 50-pint model.

What we really liked

It just runs steadier than a lot of the cheaper options. The humidistat is pretty accurate, and the fan is smart—it doesn't just blast on high all the time. On low, you can easily watch TV over it. On high, you'll hear it, but it's not an annoying drone. And here's the thing: that Energy Star certification really does help keep the electric bill down. We also love the simple stuff, like the washable filter and the reminder light that tells you when to clean it.

Okay, what are the trade-offs? Well, this base model doesn't have a built-in pump, so if you need to drain water *up* into a sink, you've got to grab the pump version. The water bucket is also a bit small. On really humid days, you might be emptying it daily if you don't use the drain hose. And while the box might say it covers a huge area, be realistic. Think of it for one or two rooms, or a section of a basement. If you're smelling must or seeing condensation on the walls, just go for a 50-pint model. It's the safer bet. But for a lightly damp bedroom or home office? This 30-pint Honeywell is plenty—and it's a lot quieter to live with.
